the iPhone 14 Pro includes a new smart dynamic island that obscures the TrueDepth front-facing camera hardware, and third-party app developers are already experimenting with ways to take advantage of the new iPhone capabilities.

Apple is letting third-party developers create Dynamic Island experiences, which could end up including games. Kriss Smolka, the developer behind apps like WaterMinder and HabitMinder, today shared a simple Pong-inspired Dynamic Island game concept.

In the demo, the “Hit the Island” game uses a paddle at the bottom to send a ball to the dynamic island, with the goal of hitting the island and causing it to animate.

Smolka said that the game is “turning out nice” but that there are some lag issues to overcome. Whether Apple will allow this type of game involving Dynamic Island remains to be seen, but there are certainly other unique implementations we can expect to see after the release of the ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ models this Friday.

Apple designed Dynamic Island to morph and change shape to accommodate what’s on the ‌iPhone‌ screen, and it’s being used as an information hub front and center. Dynamic Island is integrated into the screen and provides information at a glance about the applications and services used on the ‌iPhone‌.

We’re having a deep dive into Dynamic Island later this week, so be sure to keep an eye out for MacRumors.
